WALKING AS PILGRIMS OF HOPE

On christmas eve of 2024 in Rome,Pope Francis opened the Holy Doors of St.Peter’s Basilica and officially began the Ju-bilee year 2025 with the theme “Pil-grims of Hope”.

The virtue of hope is central to our christian faith.Hope is what sets our lives on a trajectory towards heaven; that perfect union with God,the crea-tor of the universe and the source of all goodness.

Pope Francis in inaugurating the Ju-bilee Year says that everyone knows what it is to hope. In the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come, despite our not knowing what the future may bring.

Often we come across people who are discouraged, pessimistic and cynical about the future,as if nothing could possibly bring them happiness. For all of us, may this jubilee year be an opportunity to be renewed in hope. Indeed, God’s word helps us find reason for that Hope. As pilgrims of hope, we are remind-ed that Life itself is a pilgrimage. We are all walking towards a holy des-tination, the kingdom of God. The journey of life itself is part of the ex-perience. We walk with one another, perhaps putting up with one another at times, but more importantly, walk-ing in solidarity, and meeting Christ along the way.

In walking as Pilgrims of Hope, Pope Francis asks us to listen attentively to one another, to learn from one anoth-er, to notice the needs and wounds of one another. This is exactly what the Lord has done for us through the incarnation and his passion, death and resurrection. Jesus came to live among us and now risen from the dead. He walks with us, patiently lis-tens, gently teaches and carries our burdens with us. He opens our eyes to the needs of those around us. Indeed, Jesus walks with us along the way. This gives us great hope and con-fidence as we walk this pilgrimage of life. Yes, there is much darkness in the world; hatred,greed,injus-tice,unforgiveness,murder,corrup-tion,theft and rejection but the light shines through the darkness. Knowing that Jesus walks with us reassures us daily, allowing us to face our own needs while see-ing the world and one another through his eyes.

As Mother Kevin College Com-munity, in walking as pilgrims of hope, let us always turn our gaze to Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen. Let the eyes of our souls be directed towards blessed eternity. In the hope given by the mystery of Christ’s resurrection, firmly convinced of the merciful love of the heavenly Father, who never abandons his people.

We shall live to remember the life and selflessness of Pope Francis through his life time. Thank you Lord for the great works you enabled him do through his life. May His Soul Rest in Eternal peace.
